The Plan
Muskville will be a hub of activity in the heart of Washington, DC. We'll provide real material support for displaced workers and demonstrate mutual aid alongside political education and organizing for collective action.
As government institutions fail to meet the needs of families impacted by this manufactured crisis, the mutual aid support gathered at Muskville will offer a radically different vision for how our communities can work together to meet each other's’ needs. This permitted installation will offer opportunities to learn, organize together, and build toward the future.
-
They want to isolate us, we say build community.
-
They want to starve us, we feed us.
-
They want to fire us, we’ll work for each other.
-
They want to slash education, we’ll educate each other.
-
They want to keep funding genocide and deportation, we’ll keep fighting for people and the planet.
-
They’re claiming scarcity, we’re sharing abundance.
Muskville kicks off on April 20.
We'll offer daily programming from large event tents, launch collective actions, host art and cultural events, and build the networks that our movements need to challenge the actions of the Trump/Musk administration. Programming will include supportive services for fired federal workers and other community members, trainings, political education, performances, and more.

Background
In the first weeks of the second Trump administration, “unpaid advisor” Elon Musk and his so-called Department of Government Efficiency have orchestrated the firing of tens of thousands of government employees across federal agencies, taken steps to dismantle federal programs and agencies, and halted federal funds and financial assistance programs that people rely on – with the promise of more slashing and burning to come.
The economic impact of the firings, their ripple effects, and Trump’s tariffs is devastating, especially to families and businesses in the Capitol region. It is also an opportunity to offer a vision to counter the dismal Trump-Musk vision of the United States and the world: One where we help our neighbors rather than spurn them, share our wealth rather than hoard it, and come together in community rather than isolate.
During the Great Depression, unemployed families built shantytowns called “Hoovervilles” in cities around the country. These shantytowns became hubs for people seeking and offering relief, as well as organizing centers where unemployed masses mobilized to demand action from the government to address the worsening depression. The name was a jab at President Hoover, who many believed was contributing to poverty and misfortune with his administration’s policies.
This Spring, Muskville will build on the legacy of the Hoovervilles and create a hub for solidarity, relief, and resistance in the shadow of the Capitol.

A Typical Day at Muskville
Programming
Each day we will offer a full slate of programming including skills-based trainings, resource sessions for displaced workers, political education, physical activities, and mass assemblies. The exact programming will vary from day-to-day but we plan to maintain a consistent daily schedule throughout the installation.
Have an idea for a session? Propose it here and the programming team will work with you to get it on the schedule!
Resource Fairs
On Fridays and Saturdays throughout the installation we plan to offer resource fairs dedicated to providing direct services to our communities. We welcome service providers including food distribution, clothing distribution, health care, financial assistance, housing, career coaching, resume building, social service navigation, art therapy, wellness activities, skill sharing, etc.
